Life and AD&D Insurance
Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance provides your family the financial protection they need if you pass away while employed by EXL. EXL provides you with Basic Life and AD&D Insurance at no cost to you, and you can purchase additional Supplemental Life and AD&D Insurance for you and your eligible dependents.
Note: Your coverage includes an Accelerated Benefit Rider which generally pays 90% of your death benefits in advance of death if you have a terminal illness
Basic Term Life and AD&D Insurance
You are automatically enrolled in Basic Term Life and AD&D Insurance at no cost to you. Coverage is equal to 1.5 times your Annual Base Pay, up to a maximum of $500,000. Note: At age 65, benefits are reduced to 65%; at age 70, benefits are reduced to 50%.
What is AD&D Insurance
AD&D Insurance provides an additional source of income to your beneficiary if you die due to an accident while employed by EXL. It also pays a benefit to you if you suffer certain severe injuries, such as the loss of a limb or vision resulting from an accident.
A Word About Imputed Income
Any company-provided Basic Life Insurance coverage over $50,000 is considered “imputed income” by the IRS. This calculated value is added to your income, and you must pay taxes on it. This is reflected in your earnings statement as Group Term Life. Imputed income is not the cost of the life insurance coverage, but it is the taxable amount for the value of the coverage over $50,000. The taxable portion varies by individual and is based on age and the total coverage amount. You cannot opt out of company-provided Basic Life and AD&D coverage.
Supplemental Life and AD&D Insurance
In addition to the company-paid benefit, you can purchase Supplemental Life Insurance coverage up to 5 times your Annual Base Pay in $10,000 increments, up to a maximum of $750,000. You pay the full cost of this benefit through convenient payroll deductions.
Note: At age 65, benefits are reduced to 65%; at age 70, benefits are reduced to 50%.
Dependent Life Insurance
You can purchase life insurance coverage for your spouse and children:
- Spouse Life Insurance covers your legal spouse. You can elect coverage in $5,000 increments, up to 50% of your employee coverage amount (maximum cannot exceed $250,000). You must be enrolled in Employee Supplemental Life Insurance to elect this benefit.
- Dependent Life Insurance covers your eligible children from live birth up to age 26, if they are unmarried and dependent on you for support. You can elect $5,000 or $10,000 in coverage. You must be enrolled in Employee Supplemental Life Insurance to elect this benefit. Unlike other benefits, Dependent Life Insurance is paid with after-tax dollars.
Note: If both spouses work for EXL, you are not eligible to enroll each other in this benefit. In addition, only one of the spouses can carry their children under the Dependent Life Insurance benefit.
Evidence of Insurability
If you are hired within the past 30 days, you are eligible to enroll in any coverage increment up to $250,000 for yourself and up to $50,000 for your spouse without completing an evidence of insurability form. Coverage amounts over the Guarantee Issue will require additional approval. Additionally, any employee enrolling after their initial 30-day enrollment window will require evidence of insurability.
